- Solana Activates 200ms Slots on Mainnet
Solana completed its four-stage reduction in target slot times, activating 200-millisecond slots on mainnet-beta at epoch 1053. The first post-upgrade epoch averaged 218.3 milliseconds per slot over 26.2 hours.
Why it matters: Faster slots create more frequent opportunities to include transactions and shorten leader ordering windows to 800ms, which "may limit opportunities for transaction-ordering abuse, although it also leaves less time for block assembly and handoffs."
- XRP Ledger Patches Critical Integer Overflow Bug
The XRP Ledger patched a critical 2015 vulnerability that could have allowed an attacker to create spendable XRP via an integer overflow. The flaw was reported on September 22 and patched on September 25 in version 3.4.1.
Why it matters: The flaw could have allowed an attacker to bypass "one of the network's most basic monetary rules: no more than the original 100 billion XRP are supposed to exist."
- Ledger Confirms Hardware Implant in Reseller Device
Ledger confirmed on October 11 that a hardware wallet purchased through Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis contained an unauthorized hardware implant following reports of suspected device tampering.
Why it matters: Fintech firms managing digital assets must audit secondary procurement channels to protect institutional self-custody systems against physical supply-chain attacks.
